Last night i went to see Metallica play a concert. They were tight as fuck and played a selection of stuff from all of their albums. I wanted a Perth memorabilia shirt but i’m not in the business of paying $50 for a shirt. The stage was a square in the middle of the stadium and Hetfield & Co would move around switching microphones, so you could see everything from wherever you were standing which was cool. Lars is still annoying though. And the black album is still the best album. Great concert, but not as good as Coldplay…

Last night Fish & I got some free tickets to see Fever Ray & Zola Jesus play in a big theatre in Paris. Before going i didn’t know much at all about either acts, but both were really impressive. The ZJ vocalist has one of the strongest voices i’ve heard in a long while. It was good to sit down and enjoy a proper concert for once, the atmosphere, lighting and stage setups were amazing. It was kinda like watching a Tension premiere back in the day with a few thousand more people and a million dollar budget, kinda. Here’s some pictures from my phone. Double Cheeseburgers rule.

SICILIA VII – FINAL

After spending the next day lounging at the beach, eating arancini and watching an old lady drive into an old man on a vespa, we drove back to our budget hotel in Palermo. This time we actually got a balcony and the MTV worked though. We stayed two nights and were lucky enough to catch the annual religious-festival-parade thing through the streets. Lots of horses (not the ones they eat), colourful characters and of course a huge firework display at the end. We noticed Purple is an extremely popular colour in Palermo. Anyway this is the last of our eight days in Sicily. It’s a beautiful Island full of friendly people. We swam at the beach every day and ate like kings for next to nothing. Didn’t eat bbq’d lung or intestine but maybe next time. Ciao!

SICILIA VI – CAPO D’ORLANDO

After the volcano experience, we didn’t really have a plan on where to go next on the island. On the way out we pulled over and asked an old man for directions and he told us we should head north to Brolo instead of another beach we were intending to visit. The guy was so certain it was the best place to go, he almost offered us the keys to his holiday house free of charge. Instead he gave us the name of a place where we should inform them “The Count” sent us, and we would be hooked up. Mafia 2010. Sicily was great in that sense, anytime we stopped and asked for directions or help, people were more than happy to talk to us and make sure we found the best places. These conversations usually ended up being 20 minutes long with every person within a 100 metre radius joining in. But i’m just a dumb westerner who speaks one language so i’d just smile, nod and pretend to understand what was going on whilst Laura hooked everything up. Mona. We didn’t end up staying in Brolo but we found a nice little place a little further West, around the corner from Capo D’orlando, San Gregorino i think it was. Once again we only found our apartment by stopping and asking some old women sitting on their porch at the last minute. They hooked us up with a huge three bedroom apartment with a balcony right across from the sea for the night. It would have been great to spend a few more nights here, as it was such a beautiful and quiet beach…even if the apartment itself was a little creepy when we came back late at night!
